"Elvene rundt Trondheimsfjorden"
("The Trondheim-fjord Rivers")

The organisation, "Elvene rundt Trondheimsfjorden" (ERT) or the
"Trondheim-fjord Rivers" was established in September 2004.
Its purpose is to help to increase the number of wild salmon running
the rivers of the huge Trondheim-fjord basin.
Officially, last year, approximately 100 bag-net-fishermen caught approx.
70,000 kilos or around 20,000 salmon in the Trondheim-fjord area and the annual
average over the last 5 years are 54,000 kilos or around 12,000 salmon.
The organisation wants to make an offer to the bag-nets-fishermen that represent
around 80 per cent of the annual catches.
The offer will commence from the start of the 2005 season (June 1st) and
continue for a 5 years period - and hopefully beyond.
Negotiations have been carried out with the net-fishermen's organisation as well
as communicating with the individual net-fishermen by letter and
telephone. Based on received feedback - the response has been
positive and the aim is to achieve an 80 per cent net-caught-salmon
reduction during the 2005 season.
